This blog page was developed by me (David Treppendahl} to encourage well written, truthful, objective, respectful and not overly long political “essays”. There are specific criteria the essays must meet to qualify. (Click here for the qualification requirements.)
On September 14, Wolfe Washauer made a comment on my Facebook page that really caught my attention. Wolfe acknowledged the many character flaws and bad actions of Donald Trump but said that he was supporting him because of his policies and then listed 20 policy points. (Wolfe later advised me that he did not create those points; they came directly from the DonaldTrump.com website. ) To see Wolfe’s post, click here).
In reviewing the points, I found that I disagreed with most, though not all of them. I determined that they could serve as an excellent basis for discussion on why the respective sides of the political divide are making their choices. I rearranged the points into 10 topics. On each topic, I will write a counterpoint to Wolfe’s/Trump’s Points explaining why his policy/point is no better than and in most cases much worse for America than Harris’ policies. From there, I am encouraging my FB friends to write short essays regarding your perspective and post them as comments under the relevant topics.
Essay entries that I view as qualifying will be posted under one of the two dropdown menus above. If it supports Donald Trump/Republicans, it will be under the Red menu. If Kamala Harris/Democrats, it will be under the Blue menu.
It is my hope that votes by my FB readers will decide which essays they think are worthy of winning the Golden Pen Award. There will be two winners; one from each side. ( Note the pen prizes will be golden in color, not gold in metal)
In order to encourage writers to be respectful and objective, a vote for one’s essay by someone from the other side of the political divide will count double.
