I never understood the idea of Trump as a strong man. He tweets like a hormonal teenager, and has said that the US might not defend our NATO allies. He has said we might not defend Taiwan. And when questioned in the debate, basically said that Ukraine should just give up because Russia has nukes.
He bailed on our Kurdish allies in Syria and ceded the ground to Russia.
With Afghanistan, he basically gave them everything they wanted, including 5000 prisoners that later attacked US troops, and got no promises from them at all.
There is not one example of him standing up to a dictator and forcing them to back down. It’s all about retreat with him. Retreat from Afghanistan, retreat from Syria, retreat from Ukraine.
And I’m not saying that we have to engage in endless wars to achieve our policy objectives, but just running away and hoping that our enemies just stop with their initial goals isn’t exactly the right way either.
A terrific explanation of the actual facts. So succinctly said. Leaves a reader without need to disagree. Just a clear fact checked statement and real food for thought
