Wolfe Washauer : Jonathan Simeral simple question was he dictator his first 4 years in office
That’s actually a very good question I will attempt to answer thoughtfully. I think he wanted to. He’s said as much. Despite his best efforts, his attempts to have his people submit fraudulent electors and pressure his VP to unilaterally overturn his 2020 loss failed. And when that failed, he did what many dictators have done throughout history: he incited a mob to attack the government. I think the people around him and the constitutional guardrails were enough to keep him in check. Thank God for the wisdom of our founders and for separation of powers.
Since then, however, he has become increasingly unhinged. He’s openly discussing ordering the military to go after political rivals. Virtually all of his former top military advisers say he’s “fascist to the core”. He praises dictators at every turn. He wishes his generals “were like hitler’s”.
All of those things and more are evidence of his desire to be an authoritarian dictator.
The lesson of the “crying wolf” story is: sometimes there’s a wolf. I’m listening to the people who know him best saying out loud and on the record that hes a wolf. If he looks like a wolf and quacks like a wolf, I’m not going to take the chance that the growling and bearing of sharp teeth are merely bluster.
