“Power Corrupts, Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely”, 19th century English historian Lord Acton
That quote comes to mind whenever we see any of our leaders use their powers for their side and their agenda – it does not matter if they are Republican, Democrat, Communist, Labor, Conservative, Dictator, Monarchist or Green Party. It will apply to all equally and the temptation to use the reins of government to impose the will of an individual upon their constituents will always be there.
Trump is the author of all of his own woes and is responsible for all of his own actions and the judicial system is not through in their attempts to prove that he broke the law in every regard for those indictments he has been charged with. But, let the process play out, let all the appeals be heard and let all the judgments be rendered before we close the books on his deeds or misdeeds as the case may be.
Let it be said from the start that I am NOT a Trump MAGA supporter, I refuse to drink the Kool Aid. I might also remind all those on the other side to also NOT drink their flavor of Kool Aid either.
My view point has as much effect on the majority as a butterfly fart in a hurricane, but it is mine alone and I will stand by it. But it is an opinion with some factual foundation, but like most everyone, it is affected by some emotional content. I do try to take many steps back and look at a problem from a holistic viewpoint and what I am seeing is a far cry from what my generation grew up into in our formative years.
Here is an objective view of how I see subject #5 in Davids Blog post: The very language he uses is full of emotive language that will delight the hearts of all those who are firmly in the Trump Camp and I suppose that is the point to engender an equally emotive counterpoint reply. IMO, it will do just that and we will get nothing empirical in return, just emotional responses that do nothing to shed a sane light upon the subject.
I will do my best to stick to the point without emotive language.
There is the fact that the Justice System, both Federal and State, has been in a multi-year quest to make Trump irrelevant and not a factor in American Politics if he can be convicted and jailed. The same tactic can be said about Alexei Anatolyevich Navalny in his opposition to Vladimir Putin. Both individuals have been the target of those in power, in both cases the power of the state was/is used to impose punishment on the perceived enemy. Power is a heady brew and very addictive.
I have little doubt that Trump himself has that addiction to power, but can the same thing not be said about his opposition. The classic Us vs Them state of current affairs is now a firmly rooted fact in American Politics and those in power can use the power of the state to quash their opposition. This includes the use of the Justice system – both at the Federal level and at the State level. It is being employed now as you read this response. The real question should be is it justified to apply to Trump and not apply it equally to his opposition? The AG has the power to seek indictments and how that entity employs that power must be a very careful balance of blind justice, but is it truly blind?
It is of tremendous value to the current holders of power in the United States that the very organs of information dissemination are in league with the Liberal side of the divide? That 4th Estate holds a power all of its’ own and Adolf Hitler knew this very well and employed the very skilled talents of Herr Paul Joseph Goebbels to shape a nations public opinion with regard to the Jewish Question and every other subject that fell into Hitler’s purview. Goebbels infamously stated “A lie told often enough becomes the truth”
Tell me honestly, are we given all the facts on a particular subject that comes to us via the media? How do we know all of the facts of any particular subject if the very source of those facts has been carefully edited to only reflect one side of that equation? Pay attention to the very language used and the employment of adjectives and adverbs in their descriptions.
I will give one glaring example of how the media will portray an event in words that are so obviously at odds with what is clearly seen in the background. That infamous live broadcast by the CNN reporter at the scene of a protest in Milwaukee, 27 August 2020, stating that the protests were “mostly peaceful” with a burning police station in the background. Unfortunately, that one got by the editors before it could be cleaned up. All those nasty Right Wing Republicans, rioting – tsk, tsk. That should have been the headline.
As stated in the beginning, let the legal process proceed and when it is all said and done, then we may actually know all the facts, but I doubt we will hear about it in the press.
